Chicago Fire fans dissolved into a full meltdown when news dropped that Jake Lockett is reportedly leaving the series after Season 13.
On April 16, a source told Deadline that the Chicago shows—as well as Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU—are negotiating the contracts of cast members up for renewal to cut back on costs.
As a result, Lockett (Sam Carver) and his fellow Chicago Fire star, Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter) will reportedly not return to the NBC series.
Fans of the beloved show didn’t waste time with their reactions on social media, particularly when it came to Lockett. In the comments of a recent Instagram post, one viewer lamented, “Your leaving the show @thejakelockett please don’t 😢.”
On X, another disappointed viewer declared, “Chicago Fire needs to get canceled, they just recycle storylines and get rid of meaningful characters!”
A different X user pointed out, “I get actors come & go but some cast leaving can break a show,” as another shared, “This is disappointing 😢 Carver is my favorite character rn.”
Yet another fan mourned via X, “NOOOOOOOO 😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔.”
Meanwhile, someone on X predicted, “So this tells me that Ritter is going to die, and Carver is going to move to another city. Mark my words.”
Lockett joined Chicago Fire for Season 11 in 2022 in a recurring role as Carver before getting promoted to a regular cast member in Season 13. Kyri joined in a recurring capacity in Season 7 before becoming a regular cast member in Season 9.
As of writing, Chicago Fire has not been officially renewed for Season 14.
