The Alabama men’s basketball roster for 2025-26 will not include one of the highest-ranked recruits in program history.
Forward Derrion Reid has entered his name in the transfer portal, per On3
His freshman season was impacted by injuries. Reid missed a large chunk of the second half of SEC play but returned for the SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament. He played 13 minutes against Duke in the Elite Eight, his most since he played 15 minutes against Texas A&M on Jan. 11.
Reid averaged 6.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 0.2 blocks over 24 games played during his first season of collegiate basketball. He also started three games.
The former McDonald’s All-American from Grovetown, Georgia is ranked behind only Colin Sexton in all-time commits for the Crimson Tide, per 247Sports. That makes Reid the highest-ranked recruit during the Nate Oats era. Reid was ranked ahead of Brandon Miller, JD Davison, Richard Hendrix, Aiden Sherrell and more.
Reid’s exit means Alabama will have lost four forwards from this past season: Mouhamed Dioubate and Jarin Stevenson entered the transfer portal and Grant Nelson’s eligibility expired.
Meanwhile, Alabama retained center Aiden Sherrell and guards Aden Holloway, Latrell Wrightsell Jr. and Houston Mallette.
The Crimson Tide has also landed Noah Williamson (Bucknell), Taylor Bol Bowen (Florida State) and Jalil Bethea (Miami) from the transfer portal. Add in the three incoming freshmen, London Jemison, Davion Hannah and Amari Allen, and that leaves about three scholarships open if Alabama wants to use them for 2025-26.
